PINCKNEY FAMILY REUNION July 25, 2010 Dear Pinckney’s, Family, Friends and Others: Yes, it’s that time again. Joyful reunion bells are ringing out calls for the 2010 Pinckney Family Reunion, which will be held at Honey Horn, Plantation and Coastal Discovery Museum, Hilton Head Island, SC. Located at Mile Marker #1 just over the bridge to Hilton Head Island (Google Map Directions). The 68 acre historic Honey Horn Plantation has documented history dating back 300 years. This historic visitor friendly place consists of salt marshes, open fields, stands of centuries old live oak trees, the State’s largest Southern Red Cedar tree dating back to 1595, and a collection of the oldest buildings on Hilton Head Island. The Museum, its butterfly enclosure, nature trails and boardwalks over marshes and oyster rakes are only a few yards from the pavilion where we gather and will be open during the reunion from 11:00 to 3:00. A large pavilion will be on site in case of inclement weather. -PLACE: Honey Horn Plantation and Coastal Discovery Museum on Hilton Head Island (see map enclosed) -REGISTRATION: (11:30 AM – 12:30 PM) be sure to register your family so that we will have you on the updated mailing list. -WELCOME and ANOUNCEMENTS: 12:30 PM -LUNCH: 1:00 PM: Custom of Eating Together: Each family brings its own food and shares lunch together at the big table. Ice, cups, plates, etc. will be furnished. Bring your own blankets, folding chairs and beverages as desired. -PROGRAM: 2:00 PM, A panel of “Old Timers” (maybe you), will delight all of us with tales of the past and memories we may have heard but have forgotten; please join in (panel may include such “characters” as Mary O. Merrick Keister, Dot Gnann, Henry Pinckney and Coty Pinckney). -TRADITIONAL CHILDREN”S PARADE: For all kids under 18. Bring flags, drums, bugles, etc. Children will parade to the tune of “When the Saints Come Marching In” and “Dixie”, all led by the traditional “All American Drum Major”, Ed Wyman. -PASSING THE BASKET: This helps defray the Reunion expenses. The cost of our last gathering was approximately $2,000, so please dig deep. DIRECTIONS TO REUNION: Google Map Directions 100 William Hilton Parkway (Highway 278), Hilton Head Island, SC. TICKETS FOR TWO AFGHANS: Five Tickets are enclosed at $2 each for the drawings of a beautiful afghan made by Stella Crosby Jeffers’ loving hands. Your contributions will go toward the restoration of tombstones in the old Pinckney and Porcher Cemeteries. The drawing will be held after lunch. You do not have to be present to win.
